Elastic Bias Binding

Elastic Bias Binding

Elastic bias binding gives you a stretchy, clean finish on edges that need to move with the fabric, think necklines, armholes, waistbands or headbands. At Rijs Textiles we stock two distinct qualities, each with its own composition and look, so you can pick the right stretch and finish for your project. Sold by the metre or as a full roll, this binding suits both small home-sewing jobs and larger production runs. Below you'll find the details on width, composition and what each type works best for.

Elastic Bias Binding ELEDG

• Composition: 70% polyamide, 30% elastane
• Width: 17 mm
• Full roll: 25 metres

ELEDG has a slight shimmer to it, which gives a bit of an elegant edge to whatever you're finishing. Because of the high elastane content it stretches well, making it a good pick for garments and accessories that need extra give around curves and joints.

Elastic Bias Binding ELBIA

• Composition: 50% polyamide, 46% polyester, 4% elastane
• Width: 20 mm
• Full roll: 25 metres

ELBIA comes in matte shades rather than the shimmer of ELEDG, so it sits more discreetly on the fabric. The wider 20mm binding and lower elastane percentage make it a solid option for clothing and craft projects where you want a subtle, understated finish rather than a stretchy statement.

What can you make with it?

• Finishing edges on tops, dresses and trousers
• Sewing comfortable headbands and elastic belts
• Adding a stretchy binding to quilts and other sewing projects
• Reinforcing armholes and necklines that need to keep their shape

Colours, lengths and ordering options

Both ELEDG and ELBIA come in a range of colours, so matching your project shouldn't be a problem. You can order per metre if you only need a short length, or take a full 25-metre roll if you're working on multiple garments or running a small production. Ordering by the metre works fine for one-off projects; the full roll is more economical if you go through binding regularly.
