What is this material

This bias binding is made from a blend of polyamide, polyester, and elastane, giving you a ribbon that's both sturdy and stretchy. The polyamide and polyester provide strength and the matte, slightly stiff appearance you see in the photos. The elastane gives the binding its stretch, so it moves with stretch fabrics without distorting or becoming loose. With this composition, the binding keeps its shape and elasticity even after multiple washes. It's a ribbon you can fold smoothly around an edge without it creasing or puckering.

Applications

Elastic bias binding is widely used for finishing stretch fabrics, where standard bias binding is often too rigid. This type of binding is used for:

• Finishing necklines and armholes on swimwear
• Hemming sportswear and activewear
• Finishing lingerie and underwear
• Reinforcing edges on leggings and pants
• Hemming baby and children's clothing made from knits
• Finishing curved edges on dresses and tops
• Reinforcing elastic hems without topstitching
• Repair and finishing of existing stretch garments

Conclusion

This elastic bias binding in dark grey is a handy staple for any sewing project with stretch fabrics. Check out the full range of elastic bias binding or browse all haberdashery at Rijs Textiles.
