Rib Knit Jersey Fabric - Bordeaux Bow Tie

Small bordeaux bow ties dance across a creamy ivory white base, scattered loosely with a slightly textured, hand-painted feel that gives the pattern an artisan quality. The fine rib structure of the fabric creates subtle vertical lines that catch the light beautifully, while the matte finish gives everything a soft, understated look. This bordeaux bow tie print is romantic without being saccharine, just right for anyone after something special with a vintage edge.

What makes this quality special

This rib jersey is made from combed compact yarn in a fine Ne 30/1 quality. The yarn is combed first to remove short fibres and irregularities, leaving you with a smoother and more even thread than standard yarns. The result is a fabric surface that feels noticeably firm and uniform, without rough fuzz that spoils the look. That smoothness is exactly what makes this quality so good for digital printing - the ink absorbs evenly into the fibre and the bordeaux bow ties come through sharp and full of detail. You can see it straight away in the photo: the fine lines of each bow tie stay crisp and clear instead of blurring into the fabric.

Material and properties

This rib jersey is a knitted fabric with the characteristic drop needle structure, where certain needles are deliberately skipped during knitting. That gives the fabric its recognizable ribs and a lovely texture that feels different from smooth jersey. Thanks to the elastane, the fabric stays supple and stretchy in all directions, making it well suited to garments that sit close to the body. The fabric breathes well, has a medium drape and is opaque, so you don't need to worry about show-through on lighter shades. What is Compact Yarn?
Compact Yarn is a type of yarn that is produced using a compact spinning method, which is a newer and advanced spinning technique developed in the late 20th century. Compact yarns are yarns with a special spinning technique, where the fibers are twisted into a very small twisting triangle, which eliminates fibers. This new yarn structure gives compact yarns better strength, better stretch, and less hairiness compared to conventional ring-spun yarns.

In the compact spinning process, the fibers are twisted and drawn simultaneously, which reduces the amount of hairiness and fiber protrusion from the yarn. This results in a smoother and more even yarn with fewer fiber ends protruding from the surface. Compact yarn (highly twisted) also pills less than loose yarn (with low twist).

Compact yarn is used in various textile applications, including high-quality knitwear, fine woven fabrics, and denim fabrics. It is often made from long staple fibers such as cotton, wool, and silk, but can also be made from synthetic fibers.
