What makes this rib knit so special

This quality is knitted with combed compact yarn in Ne 30/1, a type of yarn known for its fine, even structure. During combing, the shorter fibres are removed from the cotton, leaving behind a smoother and stronger yarn. You notice this straight away in the result: less pilling, a nicer drape and a surface that works beautifully for digital printing. Because of that flat, tight structure of the compact yarn, the digital print of the ducks and ducklings comes out razor-sharp and with rich detail, without colours fading or flattening. The result is a rib jersey that looks surprisingly refined not just in the photo, but in real life too.

Uses and projects

This rib knit jersey with duck print is a truly multi-use fabric, thanks to its soft structure and four-way stretch. Think about:

  • Baby rompers and bodysuits
  • Kids' pyjamas and sleepwear
  • T-shirts and tops for children
  • Leggings for little ones
  • Dresses with a playful look
  • Comfortable baby clothing for every season

What is Compact Yarn?
Compact Yarn is a type of yarn that is produced using a compact spinning method, which is a newer and advanced spinning technique developed in the late 20th century. Compact yarns are yarns with a special spinning technique, where the fibers are twisted into a very small twisting triangle, which eliminates fibers. This new yarn structure gives compact yarns better strength, better stretch, and less hairiness compared to conventional ring-spun yarns.

In the compact spinning process, the fibers are twisted and drawn simultaneously, which reduces the amount of hairiness and fiber protrusion from the yarn. This results in a smoother and more even yarn with fewer fiber ends protruding from the surface. Compact yarn (highly twisted) also pills less than loose yarn (with low twist).

Compact yarn is used in various textile applications, including high-quality knitwear, fine woven fabrics, and denim fabrics. It is often made from long staple fibers such as cotton, wool, and silk, but can also be made from synthetic fibers.
