• Composition: 100% Polyester

What is this material

Gütermann Extra Strong is comparable to traditional buttonhole thread, which was originally made from linen. Today, many sewists choose this polyester version because it stays stronger and doesn't rot like old linen thread did. The thread is smoothly spun, so it glides through your needle and fabric without pilling. With size 40 thickness, this thread has enough body to create genuinely strong seams. Gütermann has built a reputation over the years for consistent, high-quality thread, and you can feel it in the even structure of this spool.

Uses

This extra strong thread is made for work where regular sewing thread falls short. Think:

• Sewing buttons that need to stay put
• Working with leather and suede
• Stitching bags, straps, and other heavy accessories
• Reinforcing hems on jackets and coats
• Decorative backstitch in a contrasting color
• Upholstery and high-wear cushions
• Making outdoor and garden furniture covers
• Mending jeans and workwear

Conclusion

With this purple spool, you're adding both strength and color to your sewing project at once. Check out the rest of the Gütermann Extra Strong collection or explore our full range of sewing threads and haberdashery for all your sewing needs.
