What is panne velvet

Panne velvet is a velvet variant where the loops are cut open after weaving and then pressed flat in one direction. That pressing gives it the distinctive high shine and light-reflecting, crushed effect you see on this fabric. Because of the nap the colour shifts as you run your hand over the fabric, the fibres lie down or stand up and that adds depth to the colour. The base is a synthetic knit with stretch in the width, so the fabric moves smoothly without sagging. The opaque structure and medium weight make it a nice fabric to work with, not too thin and not too stiff.
