What is blackout curtain fabric?
Blackout curtain fabric is designed to significantly reduce incoming light while improving privacy and comfort. Depending on the color, a black yarn or intermediate layer is woven into the fabric to enhance light-blocking performance.
How much light does this blackout fabric block?
The blackout effect is color-dependent. Dark colors block up to approximately 90% of light, while lighter colors achieve around 70%. White and ecru shades usually offer less blackout because they do not contain a black inner layer.
Is this fabric suitable for bedrooms?
Yes. Especially darker colors are ideal for bedrooms, children’s rooms, and other spaces where light reduction is important. For maximum blackout, we recommend dark colors combined with generous pleating.
Can this fabric be used as curtain lining?
Absolutely. Due to its weight and structure, this fabric is very suitable as a curtain lining, but it can also be used as a standalone curtain.
How does this blackout fabric drape?
With a weight of approximately 220 g/m², the fabric drapes smoothly and evenly. The subtle sheen adds a refined and elegant look.
Which pleat works best for blackout curtains?
For optimal light blocking, we recommend using generous pleats such as pinch pleats, double pleats, or wave pleats. More fabric fullness reduces light gaps at the sides.
Which needle and thread should I use?
Use a universal needle size 80–90 and strong polyester thread. Always test your stitch length (around 3 mm) on a fabric sample first.
How should I care for blackout curtain fabric?
Follow the care instructions: gentle wash at 30°C, do not bleach, do not tumble dry, and iron at a maximum of 110°C. Professional dry cleaning (P) is generally permitted.
Can I order a fabric sample first?
Yes, we highly recommend ordering a fabric sample so you can assess color, texture, drape, and blackout performance in your own space.
