What is mercerised cotton

This fabric is woven from 100% cotton that has undergone mercerisation, a process where the cotton fibre is treated with lye under tension. This makes the fibre curl less and gives the yarn a smoother, rounder surface that reflects light better. That explains the soft, silky sheen you see in the fabric - something plain untreated cotton doesn't have. For this article, we chose a NE 40/1 yarn quality, which is spun finer and denser than the standard NE 30/1. The higher the yarn count, the thinner and more even the thread, resulting in a tighter weave, less fuzz and a nicer, more fluid drape. You notice it right away in how sharp and crisp the pattern looks.
