What is this material

This interfacing, also called fusible interlining, is a non-woven fabric with an adhesive layer on one side. You can spot the adhesive side by its fine granular texture and tiny dots, while the other side feels smooth to touch. When you apply heat from your iron, the glue melts and bonds the interfacing permanently to your fabric. Suddenly a thin or limp fabric gains structure and body, with no sign that anything's been added.
