What is TENCEL®?

Tencel is a brand name of fabric that uses the fiber lyocell. The fabric is produced by environmentally friendly processes from the sustainably sourced natural raw material wood. Unique physical properties of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers lead to their high strength, efficient moisture absorption and softness against the skin.

What is twill weaving?

Twill weaving is a diagonal weaving technique, and one of the strongest weaves. Literally translated, twill means 'twill'. In Dutch this weaving is called the 'twill weave'. Twill fabrics are recognizable by the diagonal weave pattern. Twill fabrics are very dense and strong.

The fabric must be treated with care.
You can steam these with various solvents, including perchlorethylene (professional cleaning).
Iron at a maximum of 110°C. And we recommend doing this inside out.
Do not bleach.
Do not tumble dry.
The fabric cannot wring out, the material cannot withstand it.

Wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle and avoid wringing or twisting the fabric, as this can distort the weave. Hang to dry or lay flat, since tumble drying isn't necessary and can lead to shrinkage; iron on a medium setting if needed.

What needle and stitch settings work best for sewing this fabric?

Use a universal or microtex needle, as the smooth Tencel fibres can slip on standard needles. Since the fabric doesn't stretch, a straight stitch works well, and pre-testing on a scrap piece is recommended.

What garments is Tencel twill fabric suitable for?
