Schmetz Jersey Needle Assortment (130/705 H SUK)

This clear box from Schmetz shows you right away what you have on hand: five needles in increasing sizes, each marked with a colored ring on the shank. The turquoise background on the packaging tells you immediately what these needles are for - elastic, knitted fabrics. You'll spot them by their rounded, blunt point, clearly visible in the close-up photo, which slides between the fibers of the fabric instead of piercing through them.

Product Features:

  • Item Number: NADEL00JER
  • Full package: 5 needles per pack. 20 packs per box

What is this material

The needles are made according to the standard 130/705 H system, which fits on virtually every household sewing machine. The SUK designation stands for the special rounded point that's specifically engineered for jersey and other elastic knits. Where a regular needle can pierce the loops of knitted fabric and cause ladders, this rounded point glides right between them. The steel is sturdy enough to handle multiple fabric layers without problems, while the point stays fine enough for delicate tricot. This way you preserve the structure of your knit or jersey fabric without damage.

Uses

With five different sizes in one box, you're prepared for just about any jersey project. The color codes on the needle shank also make selection straightforward, so you'll never accidentally grab a needle that's too thick for fine fabric.

  • Sewing t-shirts and tops from thin jersey
  • Making sportswear from sturdy stretch fabric
  • Creating baby and children's clothing from soft tricot
  • Sewing underwear and pajamas from fine jersey
  • Making sweaters and hoodies from heavier knits
  • Creating skirts and dresses with stretch
  • Repairing existing jersey garments
  • Test sewing to find the right needle size

Conclusion

A compact assortment that belongs in every sewing room, from fine 70/10 to sturdy 100/16. Check out our other needles and the full range of haberdashery at Rijs Textiles.
