Standard Scottish Tartan Fabric

This is the classic version of the fabric, woven from 65% polyester and 35% viscose. It has a width of 145 cm and a weight of 200 g/m², which puts it in the light to mid-weight range, so it drapes well without feeling flimsy. Product code R7767. The viscose content gives the cloth a soft handle and a slight sheen that lifts the check pattern, while the polyester adds durability for garments you'll wear repeatedly. It suits skirts, dresses, blouses and lined jackets, and it's also a solid pick for scarves or bag linings where you want body without stiffness.

Stretch Scottish Tartan Fabric

For projects that need a bit of give, we carry a stretch version in 64% polyester, 31% viscose and 5% elastane. Product code R6689, 145 cm wide, 260 g/m². The added elastane and higher grammatuur (fabric weight per square metre) make this a firmer, more structured cloth than the standard tartan, well suited to fitted trousers, tailored jackets and skirts that need to hold their shape while still moving with the body. It's a practical choice if you're making garments meant for daily wear rather than occasional pieces.
