2mm Cotton Gingham

2mm Cotton Gingham Fabric – Fine Check in 100% Mercerised Cotton
The 2mm cotton gingham fabric is the finest check in our gingham collection. With a check size of only 2mm, this fabric has a subtle, refined pattern that is clearly recognisable as classic gingham up close, while appearing almost plain from a distance. The fabric is woven from 100% mercerised cotton — extra smooth, slightly glossy and colourfast thanks to the mercerisation process — and has a width of 150 cm with a weight of 110 g/m².
This fine check is especially suitable for projects where the pattern should be present but not dominant. Think of shirts, blouses, lightweight dresses, children’s clothing and refined kitchen textiles such as tea towels and napkins. The 2mm version is also often used as lining fabric or as a decorative fabric combined with plain colours.
Available Colours
The 2mm cotton gingham fabric is available in 9 colours, each with a two-tone white base pattern:

- Cobalt – bright, vivid blue with a fresh appearance

Frequently Asked Questions about 2mm Cotton Gingham
What makes 2mm gingham different from 4mm or 9mm gingham?
The check size determines how prominent the pattern appears. With 2mm, the check is very fine and subtle — ideal for clothing and refined applications where the pattern should be visible but not overpowering. With 4mm, the pattern is clearly and classically recognisable as gingham. With 9mm, the check has a bold, graphic character that works especially well on larger surfaces.
Is 2mm cotton gingham suitable for shirts?
Yes, absolutely. The fine 2mm check is particularly suitable for shirts and blouses. The subtle scale of the pattern works well for formal and smart-casual garments. The mercerised cotton gives the fabric a smooth, slightly glossy surface comparable to shirt-quality textiles. For the best sewing results, we recommend using a universal or microtex needle size 80.
How much extra fabric do I need for pattern matching?
With a 2mm check, pattern matching is minimal — the small scale of the check makes it much easier to work with than larger check sizes. Allow a maximum of 3–5% extra fabric for pattern matching at seams. For 4mm and 9mm checks, significantly more extra fabric may be needed.
Can I order a fabric sample to check the colour?
Yes. Fabric samples are available via the "Fabric Sample (€0.50)" button on each product page. Especially for colours such as light grey, beige and light blue — which can vary strongly on screens — we recommend ordering a sample first.
