Schmetz Stretch Needle 90/14 (130/705 H-S)

In the photo you can see right away what these needles are made for: the yellow Schmetz head, packed against a purple knit fabric with clear stretch in the structure. That's no accident, because these needles are specially developed for elastic and knit materials. In the neat box, five needles sit in a row, each marked with the color code 90/14 so you can recognize the right size at a glance.

Product Features:

  • Item Number: NADEL90STR
  • Full packaging: 5 needles per pack. 20 packs per box

What makes the Stretch needle special

The Schmetz Stretch needle has a special groove above the eye, called the scarf, which is slightly deeper than on a standard universal needle. This keeps the lower thread loop in place better during stitching, which prevents skipped stitches on elastic fabrics. The point is lightly rounded rather than sharp, so the fibers of knit fabric are pushed aside instead of pierced. That saves you from broken loops and laddering in your fabric. The needle is sturdy enough to stitch through multiple layers of stretch fabric without bending.

Uses and projects

These needles are essential in the sewing kit of anyone who works with stretch and knit fabrics. Think of:

  • Sewing t-shirts and tops from tricot or jersey
  • Sportswear and activewear with elastic fabric
  • Baby and children's clothes made from soft stretch fabrics
  • Underwear and swimwear with lycra or spandex
  • Fitted dresses and skirts made from tricot
  • Finishing cuffs, necklines and ribbing
  • Repairs to existing stretch garments
  • Sewing with synthetic knits and stretch edges

In short

With these Schmetz Stretch needles you avoid annoying skipped stitches and damaged loops in your elastic projects. Check out the full range of needles or discover more haberdashery at Rijs Textiles for all your sewing projects.
