Which linen fabric should you choose?

- Lightweight Linen Viscose Slub: linen look with extra drape and softness from viscose — great for flowy dresses, tunics and tops with a modern slub texture.
- Linen Cotton Mix (Chambray / Herringbone / Striped): breathable and natural, with added softness and shape stability from cotton — a versatile choice for fashion and airy curtains.
- Washed Linen: pre-softened linen available in many colours — perfect for clothing, bedding and light-filtering curtains.

Sewing tips for linen
- Needle: universal or microtex 80–90 (lighter linen: 70–80).
- Prewash: recommended due to natural shrinkage (often ±3–7%).
- Finish edges: linen can fray — use overlock or zigzag.
- Pressing: iron with steam or while slightly damp for a crisp finish.
Frequently Asked Questions about Linen Fabrics
What is the difference between 100% linen and linen blends?
100% linen is crisp, breathable and very natural. Linen blends (with cotton or viscose) often feel softer, wrinkle a bit less and can drape more fluidly.
Which linen is best for summer clothing?
For airy garments choose fine linen or linen viscose slub. For bold looks, digital print linen is perfect. If you want extra comfort, consider stretch linen.
Can I use linen for curtains and interior projects?
Yes. Linen is popular for light-filtering curtains, cushions, table runners and bedding. Washed and stonewashed linens are especially loved for a relaxed, premium interior look.
Does linen shrink after washing?
Linen can shrink slightly, usually around 3–7%. Prewashing before cutting is recommended, especially for garments.
Does linen wrinkle a lot?
Linen naturally wrinkles — it’s part of its charm. Blends (linen/cotton or linen/viscose) and stonewashed qualities often show a softer, more relaxed wrinkle.
Which needle and thread should I use for linen?
Use a universal or microtex needle 80–90 and strong polyester thread. For lightweight linen you can go 70–80.
