What is this cotton jersey

This fabric is knitted using single jersey technique, giving you a stretchy, fluid fabric with a slight sheen on the front and a slightly duller back. The addition of elastane provides pleasant recovery in all directions without the fabric sagging after washing. Thanks to the medium drape, the fabric hangs beautifully on the body without feeling stiff, and the high breathability makes it pleasant to wear against the skin, even for babies and children with sensitive skin.

Quality yarn for sharp digital printing

For this fabric we use combed compact yarn Ne 30/1, one of the finest yarn types in cotton jersey. During combing, short and uneven fibers are removed from the yarn, leaving you with a smoother, stronger and more uniform thread. Compacting the yarn also means less lint and hair remains on the surface. This is exactly why this quality yarn is so suitable for reactive digital printing - the smooth fiber structure takes the ink evenly, so colors like the soft beige and pink tones in this forest plants print come out bright and sharp without fading. The result is a print that stays razor-sharp, even after repeated washing.

Uses and projects

Thanks to the four-way stretch and soft hand feel, this jersey is a great choice for various sewing projects, particularly in the child fabrics collection:

  • T-shirts and tops for children and adults

What is Compact Yarn?
Compact Yarn is a type of yarn that is produced using a compact spinning method, which is a newer and advanced spinning technique developed in the late 20th century. Compact yarns are yarns with a special spinning technique, where the fibers are twisted into a very small twisting triangle, which eliminates fibers. This new yarn structure gives compact yarns better strength, better stretch, and less hairiness compared to conventional ring-spun yarns.

In the compact spinning process, the fibers are twisted and drawn simultaneously, which reduces the amount of hairiness and fiber protrusion from the yarn. This results in a smoother and more even yarn with fewer fiber ends protruding from the surface. Compact yarn (highly twisted) also pills less than loose yarn (with low twist).

Compact yarn is used in various textile applications, including high-quality knitwear, fine woven fabrics, and denim fabrics. It is often made from long staple fibers such as cotton, wool, and silk, but can also be made from synthetic fibers.
