Square Ruler Big 60CM

This transparent ruler combines a straight edge with a curved hip section, giving you two essential shapes in one tool. The clear plastic body lets you see your fabric or pattern paper right through it, so lining up seams and grainlines becomes much easier. Along the curved end you will find angle markings from 90 to 150 degrees plus a small cutout, handy for drafting armholes, necklines and hip curves without having to trace them freehand. The long straight arm carries a full ruler scale, making this a solid workhorse for anyone who drafts their own patterns.

What is this tool made from

The ruler is made from a rigid, see-through plastic that stays flat on the table and does not warp with regular use. It feels sturdy in the hand, not flimsy like some thinner drafting rulers, so it holds its shape while you trace long lines. The printed markings are clear and easy to read, even under regular sewing room lighting. Because the material is transparent, you can position it directly over an existing pattern piece or fabric print to match lines up precisely. This makes it a reliable companion for both beginners learning pattern drafting and experienced sewists refining their own blocks.

Uses and projects

A ruler like this earns its place in the sewing room fast, especially once you start drafting or adjusting your own patterns. Some ways sewists put it to work:

  • Drafting armholes and sleeve caps with the angled curve section
  • Shaping hip and side seam curves on skirts, trousers and dresses
  • Drawing necklines with a smooth, consistent curve
  • Truing pattern seams after making fit adjustments
  • Measuring and marking straight grainlines on fabric or paper
  • Creating custom blocks and slopers from scratch
  • Checking angles when adding darts or pleats
  • Extending or shortening pattern pieces accurately
