Rib Knit Unicolour

Rib Knit Unicolour Fabric by the Metre

Rib Knit Unicolour is a knitted rib jersey fabric, sometimes referred to as a drop needle fabric, sold by the metre from our online fabric shop. The ribbed structure gives this fabric its characteristic vertical lines and elastic quality, making it a practical choice for garment sections that need to hold their shape while still stretching with the body. You'll find it in a range of solid colours, ready for direct use in clothing production. Whether you're finishing off necklines, cuffs or working on full garments, this fabric brings both function and a clean, textured look.

What makes rib knit fabric different

Unlike standard jersey, rib knit fabric has raised and recessed rows running lengthwise, created by alternating knit stitches. This structure gives it more elasticity in width, which is why it's the go-to fabric for cuffs, collars, waistbands and hems on t-shirts, sweaters and jackets. The fabric snaps back into shape after stretching, so garment edges stay neat wear after wear. It also has a bit more body than plain jersey, which helps it hold a defined edge without curling.

Unicolour versus other rib knit finishes

Within our rib knit range, Rib Knit Unicolour covers the solid-colour options, straightforward and easy to match with other fabrics in a garment. If you're looking for something with a printed design instead, take a look at Rib Knit Digital Print, which offers the same ribbed structure with patterns and motifs. For a more textured, uneven surface, Irregular Rib Jersey Fabric is worth checking out too, it has a slightly rougher knit that works well for casual or streetwear-style pieces.

Suitable for

This fabric works well for:

• t-shirts and tops with ribbed neckbands
• cuffs and waistbands on sweaters and joggers
• bodysuits and fitted basics
• casual dresses and skirts
• children's clothing where stretch and recovery matter

Because the fabric holds its shape and stretches predictably, it's also a solid pick for anyone sewing fitted garments that need to move with the wearer without sagging.
