Boiled Wool Fabric by the Metre

Boiled wool fabric is a felted wool textile, made by shrinking woven wool under heat and moisture until the fibres lock together into a dense, warm surface. At Rijs Textiles you'll find two versions of this fabric: a softer wool-viscose blend and a heavier, fully felted loden wool. Both are suited to coats, jackets and structured accessories that need to hold their shape. We supply this fabric by the metre, with wholesale options for larger quantities.

Boiled Wool, wool-viscose blend

This version is made from 60% wool and 40% viscose, at a width of 140 cm and a weight of 365 g/m². The viscose content softens the hand of the fabric and adds a subtle sheen, while the wool keeps it warm. The felting process, the "boiling" that gives the fabric its name, causes slight shrinkage and leaves a dense, slightly textured surface that doesn't fray at cut edges. That last point matters for design: you can leave raw edges exposed on collars, pocket flaps or hems without finishing them. It drapes well for coats, but also works for waistcoats, structured bags and winter accessories.

Fulled Loden Wool, 100% wool

Loden wool is the heavier of the two, at 400 g/m² and 140 cm wide, made from 100% wool with no blend. It's fulled rather than just boiled, meaning the felting is more thorough and the result is denser and stiffer. This gives excellent insulation and real durability, the kind of fabric that was traditionally used for outdoor and hunting garments in Alpine regions. Use it for classic coats, structured skirts, or accessories that need to hold a firm shape and resist wind. It keeps its structure well after wear, which makes it a practical choice for garments you want to last several seasons.

Ordering by the metre or by the roll

Both fabrics are available by the metre, with wholesale pricing from 6 metres onwards, or on rolls of 30 to 40 metres for larger production runs. That range works for a home sewer making one coat as well as a small studio cutting multiple garments. A fabric sample is available for 0.50 euro if you want to check the colour, weight and hand before ordering a larger length. Everything ships from our warehouse in Tilburg.
