Double Gauze Fabric by the Metre

Double gauze fabric is a soft, airy cotton with an open woven structure, sometimes called muslin fabric or cotton gauze. In our collection you find plain and printed qualities, a stretch version and a heavier triple layer gauze for projects that need more body. The fabric is popular for baby items, light clothing and home textiles because it breathes well, absorbs moisture and softens further with every wash. You can order it by the metre, request a fabric sample first, or buy in bulk if you run a sewing studio or small label.

Plain and printed double gauze, 2-layer

Our standard double gauze is a 2-layer cotton at 130 grams per square metre, light enough to drape softly without feeling flimsy. The unicolor version works well for muslin cloths, baby wipes, simple garments and scarves where you want a clean, uncomplicated look. The printed double gauze uses the same base quality but adds pattern and colour, which makes it a natural choice for cheerful baby clothing, swaddles, bibs and small accessories. Both qualities sew up easily with a standard needle and press well, so they suit beginners as much as experienced makers.

Stretch double gauze for extra comfort

Stretch Double Gauze Fabric contains 3% elastane, which gives the fabric a bit of give without turning it into a true stretch knit. At 150 grams per square metre it feels slightly heavier than the standard version and moves with the body, which makes it a good option for supple garments and baby items that need to stay comfortable through a full day of wear. It's a useful middle ground if you like the texture of gauze but want a little more flexibility in the fit.

Heavy cotton gauze, triple layer

For projects that need more volume, the triple layer gauze at 190 grams per square metre is the sturdier option in the range. The extra layer adds absorbency and body, so it holds its shape better in baby blankets, bath capes, play mats and throws. It still has the characteristic soft crinkle of gauze, just with more weight behind it, which makes it suitable for anything that gets daily use and regular washing.
